Product Description bleskiver (Danish meaning apple slices in English (singular: æbleskive) are traditional Danish cakes, somewhat similar in texture to American pancakes. bleskiver are cooked in a special æbleskive pan, a cast-iron pan with several hemi-spherical indentations in the bottom of the pan. Batter is poured into the indentations and as it begins to cook it is flipped with a skewer to give the cakes their characteristic round shape. They were traditionally cooked with bits of apple (æble) or applesauce inside but these ingredients are not normally included in modern Danish forms of the dish. bleskiver are not sweet themselves but are traditionally sprinkled with powdered sugar, accompanied with raspberry or sometimes strawberry jam: But really, there is so much more you can do with these pans. One of our favorite things to do is make little pancake balls. Just get your normal pancake mix and fill the round cups to the top of the cup, wait for them to brown on the one side and then flip them over to cook the other side. When they are done you can put any of your favorite toppings on them and enjoy.

Great Pan! August 31, 2010 M. Garza (Eagle Pass, Texas United States) I wasn't very convinced on this aebleskiver stuff, but after purchasing this pan, everybody in my family loves them. I have made them with blueberries, strawberries, chocolate chips, banana, and dulce de leche.
This is a very good quality cast iron pan, it is heavy, which means it will distribute heat evenly!
Definitely practice is in order to get the perfect round aebleskiver, but even the ones that are not that round are delicious!
I love Æbleskivers and this is the pan May 20, 2010 crgator (Florida) Although my family on my Mom's side is Danish, and I spent a lot of time on the farms in Iowa as a kid, I had never had an Æbleskiver until about 3 years ago, at a family reunion. My cousin, who was doing most of the organizing of the trip, had said we would have to have Æbleskivers and Medisterpolse. I didn't have a clue as to what she was talking about. She said she would buy me a pan, so I could make some too. Well, I was game for that.
Anyhow, to make a long story short, I got the pan, learned out to make those delicious little pancake balls and have enjoyed them ever since. Making up for all those lost years. Unfortunately, I lost the pan. I don't know how. I don't know where, but I lost the pan.
So, on to my favorite on-line store, Amazon.com. And I found this pan. I just got it today, and it is perfect. Just like the one my cousin gave me. It is pre-seasoned, so it's ready to go. Some of the other pans I saw, the little holes didn't look deep enough, and some of the pics showed rather flat looking "balls". Æbleskivers are supposed to be ball shaped, not flying saucer shaped. This one will do the trick. The holes are deep and when you flip these things, they are going to come out the way they're supposed to. I also read of some being small, and so I compared the size, and some did look to be small. This one is a perfect fit over my gas stove.
Unfortunately, I'll not be cooking any until at least next weekend, but I am certainly looking forward to more Æbleskivers in my new pan.
Recommended purchase. Oh, yeah, I'd recommend Æbleskiver and More: A Sampling of Danish Recipes to go a long with it. If you're going to pay shipping on a $22.50 pan, you might as well get something for it, and that book has a lot of neat recipes in it.
Quality product at an awesome price April 29, 2010 Shepherd Aebleskiver Pans are absolutely necessary if you want to make these delightful breakfast treats. Whenever we have guests and serve them aebleskivers for the first time, they are always amazed and want to know how to make them. Of course, the first hurdle is finding a quality pan at a reasonable price. The search is over. We have bought several of these pans as gifts for friends and relatives and it is always greatly appreciated. Thank you amazon for making this so easy. We recommend the pre seasoned pan because it's ready to go, right out of the box.
Great item to add to you collection March 15, 2010 Joy Lozano-studstrup (Austin, TX United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I priced pans locally and on-line and this one had the best price for the size and quality. We've used it several times and it heats up well and evenly---even on my electric cooktop. It came seasoned and ready to go. You'll want to purchase the handle hot pad.
good pan- high price May 28, 2009 C. Simpson (Backroads MT) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
this is a good pan but I've since seen just as good for half the price :-(
