Amazon.com Review
The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.

This professional-size cast-iron grill/griddle combo from the Lodge Logic series measures 20 by 10-1/2 inches (with an actual cooking surface of 19-1/4 by 8-1/2 inches), serious enough to straddle either a campfire or two burners on your stovetop. The reversible feature of this crowd-pleasing cooker means you can use the smooth side for cooking flapjacks, eggs, and grilled cheese sandwiches, and the ridged grill side for hamburgers, steaks, and sausages. A slight slope drains fat into a generous grease gutter, and the two loop-style handles provide safe transport. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy griddle with a lifetime limited warranty against defects. This pan is guaranteed to pass down from one generation to the next. --Ann Bieri

Product Description
The one thing that probably discourages more people from purchasing and using cast iron is maintenance. Like carbon steel woks, cast iron cooking pieces require "seasoning." To many this is a mysterious or overly time-consuming process. Even if you treasure fond memories of eggs and pancakes cooked in grandmother's ancient, blackened skillet, you might have no idea how to turn your new pan into such a treasure. Fortunately Lodge has come out with the new Logic line, which has been evenly coated on all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil. Next the cookware is put into an extremely high temperature industrial oven which bakes the coating into the surface. Not only will you be spared the time and effort of seasoning, but also the new piece you buy will look and perform better than if you had seasoned it at home. Just like that heirloom pan you will find that even pineapple upside down cake doesn't stick to this surface. It's two cookware pieces in one! Use the flat side for frying up pancakes, eggs, bacon, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Flip it over and use the grill for veggies, tuna steaks, chicken breasts and more!

2 out of 5 stars Unstable on gas range   September 2, 2010

1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1HUMDE7SPRQW With all the reviews raving about this griddle, I was quite excited about my purchase. I had planned on using this on my gas range over two burners for cooking pancakes and such. The dimensions of my burners seemed to be a great match for the size of the griddle, but it turned out to be unusable. I returned it.

On many gas ranges this griddle will not lay flat, but will be tippy and unstable. The reason for this is the handle cutouts on the griddle. It is a little hard to explain so I have uploaded a video to illustrate.

If it weren't for the cutout handles, this griddle would be perfect and would work on a much larger set of stove top ranges. However, the current design limits its use for many potential users.

Other than that, the quality appears good. I have several other Lodge products and have been happy with them.

Update: I didn't measure the dimensions between the inside edges of the handles before I returned it. This would be helpful those considering this griddle. If anyone has this griddle, if they could post this measurement in the comments, that would be great.

It was bought for a gift but I have used it once. I was great, but a little heavy for the person it was purchased for.

5 out of 5 stars warm up first!   August 22, 2010

There were mixed reviews on this before I purchased it. I found that it will cook to the top and bottom edges just by warming the griddle up first. I also use a spray on oil before each use which helps with sticking, which was another comment I had read. Remember to warm it up for about 5 minutes. No problem with using it and really like it. Fits perfectly on large center burner on propane stove. I love Lodge products and like buying from Amazon products arrive on time and undamaged.

5 out of 5 stars Great Griddle! It's the real thing!   August 20, 2010

always tempted by the fancy pans at Sur la Table a savvy cooking friend turned me on to the Lodge grill pan and it is amazing! I can't believe for under $40 you can get the real thing, cast iron and 20 x 10 7/16". This covers 2 burners and lets you do either a lot of grilled bread or salmon on one end and veggies on the other! Flip it over to the smooth side and you're ready to make pancakes! The griddle is heavy so watch out for that, but again, it is because it is the real thing - cast iron- and not some cheap knock off! So glad I discovered Lodge brand before I spent way too much on something I didn't need to!

My maid is going to wonder what the hell I did this weekend to make such a mess of the kitchen. Well, I cooked Jaimacan jerk chicken on a Lodge stove top grill. I have a number of Lodge products for frying, stewing and baking, and I love them. This one though is going to father Joe as a donation.
