 Love the Pan - Hate the Lid July 30, 2010

I bought this saucepan as a replacement for a non-stick that was beginning to loose it's coating. As I use it every morning to cook my oatmeal, I was particularly looking for stainless with a glass lid. I love the pan, but the handle on the lid gets VERY HOT at even the lowest temperature on my cooktop. Have a hot pad handy!

The glass cover, which is quite attractive, could be better constructed. It is not tight enough on the saucepan and allows spurts which mess the stove top and, I believe, adds to cooking time; steam escapes. I love the saucepan's construction and ease of cleaning/handling.

I kept hesitating ordering this pan because a quick search online found a similar Calphalon pan for slightly less at places like Bed Bath & Beyond and Macys. But their pictures were different from this one and this is the one I actually wanted. I think this is the old version of the Calphalon 1 qt stainless steel pan and it's the version I prefer-- sometimes older versions are just better. This pan matches perfectly with other Calphalon stainless steel pans I already have including the 5 qt sauce pan. It cooks well, cleans easily, all without any kind of non-stick coating. In short, it's become my daily go to pan. No regrets.

This little saucepan has many practical uses. I use it nearly everyday to make one or two servings of oatmeal and it is also great for whipping up marinades or sauces. It is a solid stainless-steel pan with a nice heavy bottom.
The handle stays relatively cool to the touch, though warmer by the base of the pan. The handle on the glass lid gets hot enough that you may need a potholder, but that doesn't bother me.
After near daily use for months - and just as many trips through the dishwasher - this pan is in great shape. I have the larger saucepan also and it is holding up just as well. I'd recommend these pans to anyone!

A one quart saucepan is just right for simmering or reheating two servings. I use it for vegetables, canned soup and left-overs. It heats evenly and has a nice design. Quick to wash and takes less storage room. Good for "empty-nesters" who don't need to cook large quantities. If you cook for a crowd you probably don't need a one quart.
