5 out of 5 stars Excellent Juicer   July 26, 2010
Cynthia S. Boswell (WAYNESVILLE, NC, US)
I absolutely love this steamer! I've used it several times since ordering, it's very easy to use, cleans up wonderfully and is very sturdy. I used it to juice blackberries and peaches. I peeled my peaches and froze them, then used the peeling to make peach juice for jam. I had the top full of peach peelings, after about an hr and half I had a full gallon of peach juice with NO work! It's the most wonferful thing ever for making juice. I will also be making tomato juice and grape juice. I didn' have to worry about the bottom pot boiling dry - it didn't even come close. Excellent Steamer/Juicer!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best invention ever!!!!   June 19, 2010

I was actually looking for a juicer when I ran across this little gem. I had never heard of a steam juicer before, but so happy I found this one! I ordered it right away since our cherries are just getting ripe now.
Regular juicers won't take the cherry pits, you have to pit them by hand first before juicing. Except I did find one that said you can put the cherries in whole, but it cost $249, kinda hefty price tag.
Just tried this Cook N Home out for the first time today. We picked 3/4 gallon of cherries, washed them, threw 'em in this juicer and in an hour got 1/2 gallon of delicious cherry juice. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make! The juice comes out ready for processing, but for this first small batch I just refrigerated it.
We have a big garden and several fruit trees in our yard and so we can make a lot of juice now. I can't wait to try apples, strawberries, grapes, pears, etc . . . thinking apple cherry berry juice. Yum!! And wow, how easy it will be to make tomato juice this way, and jellies. This is gonna save me a ton of work and plus I'll be able to use all our fruits up since I never have time to do it all the old way.
I saw that there are cheaper steamer canners out there but they are made of aluminum. Isn't that linked to alzheimers? I wouldn't feel safe using one of those.
I would definitely recommend this juicer. It is very well made and has a large capacity, 9 1/2 quarts of juice at a time! This is the lowest price I found for a stainless steel model and I'm sure it will outlive me.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic piece of canning equipment for the price   May 14, 2010

For most of my life, I had done all of the juicing/jellymaking the old fashioned way. Then, believe it or not, my mother purchased a steam juicer and raved about its efficiency. I had never even dreamed of such a thing! Amazon had this one listed on sale, and already considerably lower priced than its closest competitors, so I thought I would get one for myself. (About a decade ago, my mother's cost just over $100.) I've had it for months, as it was still winter when it arrived, but now I'm making jellies and juices and syrups...and this thing is a wonderful piece of equipment to add to your arsenal for canning. Minimal dilution by water, no foaminess induced by a blender, no pressing and wringing and aggravation as it runs through food mill and colander, then through jelly bags.

I took it to a friend's house where we were picking & processing mulberries and wild blackberries. In just a few hours, well over ten gallons of berries were processed into about three gallons of pure intense juice. She was amazed to see it come streaming out of the tube, like some sci fi cow giving mulberry milk! (she actually called a number of friends to report to them how this amazing steam juicer worked--it was worth every penny AND the sweaty labor of picking the fruit just to hear her!)

This particular juicer is not heavy duty stainless steel. Perhaps under truly heavy & regular use, this lighter weight stainless would prove to be an issue. I use a juicer a handful of times a year to process fruits & vegetables, so for me, lower price and lighter weight were both pluses! All of the parts fit together very well. It's easy to clean after use. My sole concern is that when the silicone tube for the juice finally begins to wear out, get brittle or show other signs of needing to be replaced, that may be a very tricky operation. In the meantime, I am anticipating years of trouble free use from this steam juicer.

This is a wonderful item if you do any canning. I have made Strawberry juice and Blueberry juice (eventually they will be either syrup or jelly). I also use the remnants from the juicer to make fruit leather. No waste!
My next thing is to steam chicken quarters for stock. That is the pure juice from the chicken. No water added.
I can't wait for spring and summer for all the fruits to get ripe.

4 out of 5 stars Juicer/Steamer   March 14, 2010

It is a fantastic and easy way to extract juice to make jelly. The only thing (I hope will not be a problem) is that the holes are larger than my German, 50+ years old one had...Muschi Fisher
